Christmas at Home and the Trip

Christmas this year was at home with our tree and doggies and it was wonderful. Headed out for dinner and our first Unitarian Universalist service on Christmas Eve. We're trying to figure out how we're going to approach religion with this new little life, and the UU's views seem in line with our own. The pastor told the birth stories of Buddha and Confucious along with the birth of Jesus, said a special thank you to our soldiers, talked about the true meaning of Christmas that gets 'wrapped up' in gift buying and travel. There is very little (maybe no) mention of God, it's more about approaching your life in a thoughtful, moral and non-judgemental way which we like. Christmas Day involved package opening with my Mother-in-Law via the webcam in the morning, a trip to Ft. Pulaski with the doggies, additional package opening in the afternoon and a Southern Christmas Dinner of boiled ham, collards, and homeade macaroni and cheese. We gave small things to eachother, but were blessed with several packages of baby girl clothes, toys, shoes and sundries. Very special opening those packages and feeling the love that went into them. I have requested that my father in California send me some hippy baby clothes

So for those of you who I haven't discussed this with, Dave and I are heading to France on December 29. This is my big surprise 30th birthday present from Dave - a trip to Europe is something that we've both wanted to do for years. With the baby on the way, it's now or never much later. So we're staying in Paris for two nights, then we head to the Loire Valley, then to Mont St Michel via a small town we have not chosen yet, then to see the WWII memorials, then to Notre Dame, and back  to Paris. It's a quick trip considering the distance, but we figure nine days will break us in. The plan is to take a bunch of pictures, eat at random cafes and inns, and do a couple of touristy things. Cannot wait to share our experiences when we return! Happy New Year to all!
