What a month.
We had a fantastic time with my Aunt Beth and Uncle Richard who came to stay with us while my Aunt attended a class in Hilton Head. She braved the hour long back-road drive every morning before sunrise so that she could stay with us and spend some time together. During their trip we attended two Savannah Jazz Festival events (one at a barbeque restaurant, one in the park), went on a haunted pub crawl, went out to dinner at the Olde Pink House (one of our favorites) and even caught a portion of a fireworks show prepared by the American Pyrotechnic Association who had a conference going on. Lots of wine was drunk, lots of stories were told. It was a great week and they didn’t judge me for my chickens (I even think they like them).
Speaking of the chickens - no eggs yet. I just know they are coming any day now. I can see it in their little chicken faces. I've discovered some new food favorites:
1. Squash innards - seeds and all.
2. Muscadine Grapes - I always wondered who loves these.
3. Honeydew and Cantaloupe Skins
4. Flowers from my pots out back.
5. Herbs...not entirely okay with this one.
For Labor Day weekend we screened in our side-porch which has given us a whole new space to enjoy. Pictures to come of that - want to get it properly decorated first. I also managed to repaint and decorate the guest room prior to the arrival of my Aunt and Dave's friend. Plus, his Mom comes Friday so we wanted it to look nice for her.
Planted some fall annuals (mums and marigolds) even though it still feels more like summer than fall. I think the weather is turning though. The fall garden is in and includes - all experimentally - cabbage, broccoli, beans, collards and brussel sprouts. I decided to wait to plow up the side yard until Spring.
The NY Jets are stressing us out like always (particularly last night's Miami game), but I'm glad football has started back up. I am cautiously optimistic about Texas A&M's 3-0 record. Hopefully I can catch the Oklahoma State game this weekend.
Go Aggies! Go Jets!
