Visiting the Family

Going to California is like going home for Dave and I. We spent a little over a week out there with my Grandparents, visiting my Dad, visiting Dave's Uncle/Aunt/cousins, swimming, playing a little tennis, seeing a couple of concerts and driving around collecting weird stuff to bring back with us - more blogging about that later.

A few key pics from our trip are below.

The extra low tide made for some excellent exploration for Dave. I've been playing in these tide pools at the cove since I was little, but I have never been brave enough to go this far as the rocks are slippery - I am still not. The whole time he was over there I was freaking out that either the tide was going to come in or he was going to fall and hit his head and I would not be able to get to him. Glad he got some nice pictures though - and he found a dead seal.

There were a bunch of really nice back porch sunset, but this one was different.
My Grandmother said it looked like a city in the clouds.

My Grandmother thought it would be fun to take us to the Palm Springs Follies while we were there and Dave could drive, so we loaded up the rental car and headed to the desert/mountains. The drive was neat actually, you pass through so many different landscapes. The show was really good too! It's pretty amazing to see those 60-70 year old women who have bodies like 20 year olds dancing around up there. We were definately the youngest people in the audience, but it was a really nice thing to do with my Grandparents. I had never been to Palm Springs, but it is a different little place with mid-century architecture and funs shops and restaurants. We did not stick around long, but I want to go back for a visit some time. I hear they have a fun Thursday night street festival.

The guy standing to the left in this picture of the line for the Follies actually
asked us if we were in the wrong line....

The stage and theatre are decorated with pictures and signs from the places that
were really popular when Palm Springs was the place to be for celebrities.

Dave and my Grandfather on the way home.
