We got back on Sunday from our trip to see the Aggies play the Longhorns one last time on Thanksgiving. It was a great ride; we hit the Florida Panhandle, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana before getting to Texas. We stayed one night in Tallahassee and New Orleans on the way in, and a night in Montgomery, Alabama on the way back. We laughed and watched movies (and talked baby names!) for both sides of the 18 hour drive. I had never really enjoyed New Orleans; both trips I had made there were in College and neither involved soberly walking the City and eating good food. It’s a beautiful gritty place with lots of culture and great music. I think we had the best po’boys of our lives.
Texas was fantastic. For years I had been trying to figure out how Dave and I could get back for a game, so this was a special couple of nights in my old city. College Station has grown like crazy; I hardly recognized my old hangouts amidst the new shopping centers and developments. The old favorites are still there, and we spent the night after the game going to some classic old bars and restaurants (all of which have deer/goat heads on the wall). In the end we lost the last rivalry game, but it was one of the most exciting games I have watched, so I didn’t mind. Aggies were up by two touchdowns and then let the game slip away through penalties and missed opportunities (typical). We had good seats and the 88,000 in attendance showed Dave what an Aggie stadium can sound like.
Tallahassee is a really nice city! Want to spend more time there! |
We did our best to catch every one of these, but traffic and road signs didn't always cooperate |
Case in point... |
Two rainy days on the road. |
The crazy long bridges going into and out-of New Orleans are amazing. |
It's like landscape architecture on a balcony! |
I just know there are vampires living in there.... |
How I know we're going on a road trip - itinerary in lap, gps on deck |
The Corps getting ready to march into the stadium. |
The packed, loud, awesome crowd. |
