The Great Plant Migration

Every year about this time a great migration happens at our home. The outdoor plants, which have spent their Spring, Fall and Summer enjoying the pool, the breeze, and the sunshine, are brought inside for Winter. I always wonder what they think when they are pulled from their respective perches and brought into the sunroom. Do they discuss their 'wintering' with the full-time outside plants like the Northerners who travel to Florida every year?

Hibiscus Bush to Magnolia: 'The avocado tree and I thought we'd Winter in the sunroom this year, last Winter on the screen-porch was just too harsh. You really should pick out a second home, every one is doing it'.

Do they feel superior to the other plants and mock them from inside? Or is the inside a dreaded, dry curiosity where plants feel awkward and uneasy? They certainly always look healthier once the get out again in the Spring.

So now our sunroom is adorned with herbs, two small avocado trees, and a couple other stragglers that we're not sure can tolerate occasional dips into the thirties.

For those of you who remember my avocado tree post:
(http://weeklybabble.blogspot.com/2011/04/avocado-tree.html) you'll appreciate an update. Dave is not entirely sure that the TWO cold hardy varieties of avocado tree that he had shipped for our anniversary are cold hardy enough, so they're inside. The big one that we planted over the summer has now been adorned with a frame that holds a series of sheets and tablecloths as a cover. It looks ridiculous dressed up like a ghost, but he worked really hard on it, so we'll just have to make sure we remove the sheets before the neighbors get worried that it's a new piece of yard art. I did not take any pictures of it all dressed up, but imagine what a ghost would look like if you dressed it in a pink tablecloth, flower patterned sheets, and a dirty canvas tarp. Awesome.
