Anyone who knows me well knows that I have no problem talking. I can yadder on about anything to pretty much anyone, and every now and then it really pays off! It all started in the grocery store last week, in the baby food aisle. I was lamenting over which foods to buy for Lane, she's not too enthusiastic about her solids - she'd take down maybe a jar a day - and we're struggling to find the right balance of additional fluids to help her...umm...eliminate (sorry, I have hit a new low in motherhood....poop has become a topic of conversation). I had been buying a good brand of organic baby food in hopes that we could get through all the allergy testing and then I'd start making my own, but the whole solids adventure had not been much fun for us just yet. Next to me was a mom buying similar products, so.....I struck up a conversation that began with 'I hate solids'. She said 'me too'. Then I asked if she makes any of her own food, and she said she did and that her little one - a few months older than Lane - enjoyed the homemade stuff better. Then she told me about a blogger that had created a bunch of baby food recipes that could be made in an hour, with twenty dollars in ingredients...and just like that, she sent it to my email address from her phone......and now I am a rockstar Mom who makes her own babyfood!
The recipes that this lady put together (http://pinterest.com/ pin/39899146670321607/) balance nutrition, fiber and taste so that Lane is now eating tasty meals that are loaded with superfoods like blueberries, quinoa, carrots, etc. Who wouldn't like to eat 'Carrot, Apple, Plum' or 'Banana Quinoa'? I think they took me a little over an hour to do in total, and maybe cost a little more than twenty dollars to buy better quality ingredients, but it really wasn't bad at all - and all I have is a blender and a steamer basket! So far so good, Lane seems more interested in these foods even if she isn't taking down much in the way of quantity yet (solids aren't too important until a year anyways). More importantly, this has made solid food more fun which we both needed.
I emailed my grocery store friend back after my successful adventure to say thank you....and I think there might be some friend potential for Lane! Speaking of talking, little one has been babbling to us at night during dinner and through the day. She has lots of expression in her eyebrows as she tells us all about her day, which was clearly very interesting and maybe a little distressing. She has also discovered that she can roll for transport instead of just to retrieve....a little more stressful for mommy, but I'll take this over crawling or heaven forbid walking!
FYI, we are at 32 weeks folks...that means I have 20 of these left to do...this makes me very sad.
Mommy and Daddy bought me a rug for my new 'playroom'. They didn't think they'd ever have a 'playroom' but they do now! |
<3 the babble phase :) so much fun!
