It's the end of September, I do not know what happened to the Summer - we are weeks from the election, weeks from Halloween, Christmas stuff has already begun to come out in the stores. We have our next trip planned - we're headed to New York to visit Long Island family and a friend in the City. I love Fall in Savannah, it is some of the best weather we have all year - and I love Fall in New York, it feels like the type of Fall you see in the movies.
Becoming a mommy has made me aware of the things that require my love and attention, like the yard. While it will not make up for my summer neglect, I am considering planting a Fall veggie garden this weekend (will have to put the baby in some sort of screened device to fend off the bugs). Dave has been an excellent stand-in this year with mowing and weed whacking, but I see beds that need weeding, invasives that need pulling and my garden spot is a sad tangle of stray zinnias and volunteers. On my way out the door this morning I swear one of the strangled ferns tried to grab me and the un-pruned azaleas were making a sad face when I pulled out of the driveway.
Also in need of my love and attention, our doggies. They were used to one or two walks a day during my pregnancy and I have yet to brave taking them with the stroller. They have had a few doggie play dates lately which has been good for them, but I think I will attempt taking Neeko with us for morning walk tomorrow. They are way better with the baby than I expected - not that they get one on one time with her - they sneak in licks whenever they can, and Lane is fascinated with them and looks for them in the mornings. She is 4 months today and we had her 4 month doctor's appointment. She was all smiles with her doctor and nurses, and she is right on target with her growth curve - a respectable 24 inches 12 pounds. Doc says that we'll start cereal at 5.5 months and solids at 6 (veggies first), so little one will remain my exclusive nursing baby a little longer. This is all going so fast, I will hold on to the babyness that I can get.
Lots of work to get done over the next couple weeks. Wish me luck!
Mommy is getting slightly excited about Halloween coming up - she even succomed to the end cap of skeleton pj's. Seriously, they glow in the dark, who could pass that up? |
